A Walk on the Wild Side: Animals Portraits

The Photography of Jennie and Chuck McGregor

Zoos provide the perfect opportunity to photograph animals up close. Of course, the challenge is photographing past the pesky bars in a more natural setting. Luckily the trend in zoos is towards more natural habitats. Also, some zoos allow the photographer to shoot up over the top of the bars such as the elephant display at the Oakland Zoo or down into the display such as the lemur display at the San Francisco Zoo. If shooting through the bars are the only option, try dialing in a large aperture on the camera, stand back away from the cage and focus on the animal.
